Assoc. Emil Tsvetanov: Wine grapes will not have a high yield

The climate requires the application of various operations during the vegetation of the vines

The wine grapes this year will not have a high yield, because it does not ripen, but dries on the vines, commented for Agri.BG Assoc. Emil Tsvetanov, Director of the Institute of Vine and Wine in Pleven (IWV)

"The year was very dry, in early spring there were hailstorms that also affected the vineyards of the institute. Some winegrowers in the region do not collect anything at all, with others all grape varieties ripened at the same time because of the drought"," added Assoc. It's colored.
According to him, the wine grapes have not been able to ripen slowly, but dries on the vines and the owners strive to collect at least what is left of them.

"The worst thing is that the grapes ripen at the same time and everyone tries to be able to rob it before it is ruined in order to be able to do something," the director of the IVV further said.

According to him, the problem is lessened, since heavy rainfall did not occur throughout the country and only in local places there are plantations that are watered.

“We at the Institute picked up almost all the white wine grape varieties. We also started picking the Buket variety, which is red. We are currently monitoring the sugar content of Storgozia, and we will probably start harvesting it in a few days. The problem is that the grapes ripen very early, and secondly, simultaneously. The workforce is a problem in general, not just for this year. Usually in a normal year, the early, mainly white varieties ripen first, then switch to the red earlier varieties, and finally the late red varieties are harvested and there is some consistency, and so the winemakers can allocate their resources and equipment. This year, however, everything happens at one point", commented Assoc. Emil Tsvetanov.

According to him, vine-growers can not look for very high quality grapes, as it dries.
"In places where they managed to irrigate it or there was local rainfall, it may have a higher quality. The problem is that it does not even ripen, it dries, raisins and maybe from this a little jumps sugariness, but there is no juice, no yield"," said the expert.

The explanation he sees in the climatic features in recent years.

"Recently, the years are such that in the spring there is a lot of rainfall that generates great vegetative growth, then the drought occurs and the vines, because of the large number of shoots they have developed, cannot feed the bunches.

It is important to take measures of wringing, of reducing the number of clusters, in order to be able to compensate for this strong vegetation in some way. These problems are only going to get worse and we will have to look for a solution for every farmer.", further explained the Director of the ILV Assoc. Emil Tsvetanov.
